Cooler Master Masterkeys L Mechanical Keyboard Review

Masterkeys L

If you take your desktop keyboards seriously, then you’ve likely explored some of the high-end models created by Cooler Master over the last few years. While they’ve always had a strong gaming keyboard lineup, their premium keyboards are even stronger. While on the surface, this looks like any other keyboard, it features improved durability and build quality to give it a more premium look, feel, and even better performance.

The new Masterkeys L features thicker PBT keycaps, with an improved typing response. While Cherry MX switches provide further enhancement. It is also one of the few main consumer keyboards that offer a Cherry MX Green Variant! Green are nice, as they’re both tactile and clicky, like a heavier blue, but they’re a blast to type on and very responsive.

For the Power User

“Looking for a high-performance keyboard that means business when it comes to heavy PC use? The MasterKeys PBT series is your ideal keyboard, a natural evolution from our incredibly popular QuickFire Rapid and XT keyboards. By choosing substance over style and functionality over flash, the MasterKeys PBT isn’t a fashion statement – it’s a no – BS approach to a superior typing experience.” – Cooler Master

Thickness Matters

“PBT keycaps are awesome, but they’re also brittle and can be prone to breakage. So we combat that with incredibly thick, 1.5mm PBT keycaps for superior durability, solid feel, and springier responsiveness with our switches. The result is a keycap that has minimal fading, almost no smoothing, and nearly inconsequential wear and tear. We make sure it all stays tight, even if you have the sweatiest, heaviest sausage fingers.” – Cooler Master

Precision German Engineering

“A mechanical keyboard’s soul resides in its switches, and we didn’t even think about skimping on those. No knock-offs here – the MasterKeys PBT has 100% legit, German-made Cherry MX Switches, good for 50 million keystrokes. All the responsiveness, accuracy, and tactile satisfaction the Cherry MX line is known for, available in five different colors based on your preferences. There’s nothing fake about these – they’re all-natural, baby.” – Cooler Master

Packaging and Accessories

The design of the box is pretty much the same as all other CM keyboards. However, you’ll notice in the corners it states this comes with “Superior PBT Keycaps” and you can also see it’s Cherry MX Green with an English layout.

In the box, you’ll find a lovely braided USB to Micro-USB detachable cable, as well as a small booklet. Not a lot of extras, but it’s not like you need anything else. There is another surprise in the box, but let’s save that for later in the review (because I forgot to photograph it here).
