Performance

Both the keyboard and the mouse are fully plug and play compatible, and do not require the use of any extra software to access all of their features. That being said, there aren’t any extra features as such. The keyboard and mouse feature a very cool LED back-lighting system that certainly adds to the overall aesthetic, but will also make it nice and easy to see what you’re doing when gaming in a dark room.

Gaming performance is obviously important, so I fired up a few games of League of Legends, Battlefield 3 and Minecraft to put them through their paces. The mouse does feel cheap to use, most certainly due to the loud click of the switches and cheaper plastics used in its construction, meaning it feels pretty lightweight. The sensor seems pretty decent though, there are no acceleration issues and the lift off height was low, which is about all most people could need from a gaming mouse, especially at this price range. The scroll wheel does have a very well-defined “bump” to each rotation, so it does lose some accuracy when scrolling through weapons, but the grip coating makes it easy to use overall. The DPI toggle is a welcome feature, but you do have to toggle through the speeds with one button, meaning you can’t just drop from high to mid speed.

The keyboard has a nice and low typing action that is good for tapping out quick commands in games like League of Legends, but the soft membrane switch doesn’t give you the best tactile feedback for rapid button presses. However, the keys are quite lightweight and don’t require a lot of pressure to trigger, so finger strain should be kept to a minimum after hours of carving out the landscape in Minecraft.

Day to day is pretty good too, the keyboard and mouse are well suited to casual computer use, so writing a few emails, checking Facebook and day-to-day browsing type tasks. Those wanting to type a dissertation will likely want something that feels a little more responsive, but for those who only fire up their computer for social media and a few games of Dota, LoL, Minecraft etc, will be happy enough with the performance of the Devastator.
