Corsair Carbide 100R Silent Mid-Tower Chassis Review

Introduction

100R_001

Corsair is one of the most recognizable names in the chassis industry, having many of the most popular chassis’ designs across many different price ranges. They’ve dazzled us with their flagship products such at gargantuan Obsidian 900D and the very funky Carbide 780T, but today I’ll be looking at something a lot further down the range; the budget-friendly 100R Silent. The new chassis isn’t designed to blow you away with extreme performance, but it has been designed to offer you a neat and tidy product, with an affordable price tag to match, so it’ll be interesting to see just how much you get for your money.

The 100R Silent keeps with the overall style we’ve seen from many other chassis in this range. It has an all black paint job and matching black plastics towards the front. Down the left side of the front panel, you’ll find some ventilation slots for airflow to the front mounted fans, and the side panel has a raised design.

The same designed is continued on the right side of the chassis, more ventilation on the edge of the front panel and another raised side panel, which will allow for more cable routing space behind the motherboard; this also means it matches the design of the left side panel.

The front panel is nice and tidy, just a small I/O panel at the top, two barely noticeable 5.25″ drive bay covers and a small logo is all you will find here.

The I/O panel is nice and simple, with a pair of USB 3.0 ports, HD audio jacks and a combined button that forms the LED indicators, power and reset switch.

Around the back of the 100R Silent, you will find a single 120mm fan mount and seven expansion slots. Each of the expansion slots comes fitted with a ventilated and reusable cover, the fittings for these are accessed from the rear of the chassis and there is a screw guard to the right side of the slots.

Tucked away at the top, you will also find a three-speed fan switch. This is always a welcome bonus as it’ll help you balance cooling performance and noise levels.

Four hard plastic feet provide the 100R Silent with extra ground clearance; perfect for taking full advantage of the PSU air intake and its slide out dust-filter.
