Corsair Carbide Series 678C Low-Noise Chassis Review

Interior

The interior holds few surprises, but only because I saw it all through the side panel window, ha! It’s pretty well laid out to be honest, with loads of space for an ATX motherboard and decent cable routing options around it. Plus, a large CPU cooler mounting cut-out is located behind the motherboard.

Modular Drive Bays

To the right of the motherboard, you’ll find a bank of storage bay mounts, allowing you to put some storage up front. They’re a pretty cool design too, and can be moved around, or removed completely to suit your needs.

In the front, there’s only a single intake fan pre-installed. However, if you’re adding your own custom fans or even liquid cooling, that shouldn’t be an issue. For most mid-range systems though, the stock fans here will do just fine.

One thing you don’t see a lot of these days, is the 5.25″ drive bay. In fact, I can’t recall the last time I saw a chassis come through here with this bay. What is this, 2015? Either way, if you need it, it’s taken care of.

Vertical GPU Mount?

In the rear, you’ll find the usual expansion slots, each fitted with a reusable and ventilated cover. They’ll all screwed in too, so easily removed, non of those snap-off jobs.

For those wanting to expand a little further, you’ll also find two more slots mounted vertically. Of course, these are ideal for mounting a GPU using a riser cable, if you wanted to show that off through the window.

This may be a good time to show you that the front panel does open up. From here, you can see the 5.25″ bay is plenty accessible. Of course, you also have easier access to that front dust filter too, making maintenance a whole lot easier.

There’s another 140mm fan in the top too. Keep in mind, this is blocked off, so when you turn the fan on, you want to open the top panel for the added airflow. Personally, I’d whip this out and put it on the front panel.

Around the Back

Behind the motherboard, space does look a little limited. With the noise dampening material on the panel, cable space is tight. However, there is a huge PSU shroud in this chassis, so excess cables can be tucked out of the way, which will help quite a lot.

For more storage, you’ll find three tool-free SSD mounts behind the motherboard also.

Aside from the four floating HDD bays in the front, you’ll find a further two under the PSU shroud also. In total that gives us 6 large and 3 small storage bays; 9 in total.

Towards the top, a small PWM repeater, which can handle up to six fans from a single motherboard header. Again, this will further help with cable management, hiding a lot of these out of sight.
