Corsair Gaming K63 Mechanical Keyboard Review

Performance

Regarding party tricks, the K63 doesn’t have a lot to offer, but that doesn’t make it a bad keyboard at all. There’s some lovely red LED lighting, which gives it a vibrant fiery glow when powered on, making it very easy to read the keys in a darker room, plus LED lighting just looks cool anyway! The built-in multimedia controls are a huge bonus, Corsair could have hidden them with an Fn-shift function on the F1-12 keys, but they didn’t, so it’s perfect for those who enjoy a lot of music at their computer.

Cherry MX switches are well known around the world for their excellent build quality and consistent performance. The K63 uses Cherry MX Red, which feature a linear action, they don’t require a lot of force to trigger, and they’re lightning fast, making them one of the best switches in the world for gaming. If you play games like CS:GO or LoL, where fast-paced button mashing is common place, then you’ll be very happy with these switches.

There was no doubt in my mind that this keyboard was going to be perfect for gaming, and after using it for a few days, it hasn’t let me down once. I do miss my number pad, but that’s primarily for work reasons rather than gaming, and it’s certainly a subjective thing too. The switches are responsive, and since the key caps don’t bottom out on the chassis, the keyboard is noticeably quieter than some MX Red equipped mechanicals too.

The thickness of the keyboard isn’t too bad, but if you don’t type with an elevated wrist, you may find it uncomfortable or need to invest in a wrist rest; especially if you game for many hours on end.

Overall, the keyboard looks great, feels durable, and is much more compact. For gaming, it’s a heck of a lot of fun, and while it’s snipped away a few features, it still ticks all the right boxes for a no-fuss, high-performance gaming keyboard.
