Final Thoughts

Price

If I had to guess the price of this headset, I would have put it closer to £150, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it out it’s actually only £89.99 from Overclockers UK. Of course, that’s still not what I would call budget friendly, this is an expensive headset, but it’s quality and performance certainly make it a bit of a bargain, even at this price.

Overview

Corsair has really knocked it out of the park this time, creating a premium grade headset at a sub £100 price point. The first thing that strikes me about this headset is the build quality, as I really can’t find a single fault with it. The choice of the materials, the construction and the little details, such as the quality of the buttons and the little lights in the mic boom, are all fantastic. The material on the ear cups and headband is luxurious and super comfortable during those long gaming sessions. It doesn’t offer the same level of noise suppression you would get from a set of leather pads, but the soft memory foam does create a very tight fit and does an almost comparable job.

The microphone is very impressive, offering crystal clear performance and a voice monitoring mode that allows you to keep tabs on what other people can hear, as well as listening to your own voice over your source audio. The real star of the show is the drivers, they sound fantastic and offer a lot of detail across the whole range. On the stock settings, they’re a little bass heavy, which is great for gaming and music, but you can use the downloadable software to tune their performance to be more suited to movies, in-game chat and more. Overall, you’ll struggle to find anything that sounds better in this price range and it’s nice to hear a wireless headset that’s comparable to its wired counterparts, albeit with a small price premium for the additional technology.

The price is a big win, as it’s not a huge increase over a comparable wired headset, such as the HyperX Cloud II, MadCatz FREQ5 and Astro A40. When you look at the competing wireless headsets around the same price, Corsair make a mockery of the competition, beating out models from Creative, Turtle Beach, MadCatz and more in terms of quality, price, specification and performance.

Pros

  • Excellent sound quality
  • Crystal clear wireless technology
  • Virtual surround that actually works
  • RGB lighting
  • Indicator LEDs on microphone boom
  • Easy to use controls
  • Extremely comfortable
  • Very competitive price

Cons

  • None

“The Corsair VOID 7.1 Wireless Headset is quite simply one the best headsets we’ve ever tested. It’s got the perfect balance of comfort, performance, technology and price, making it an essential purchase for any desktop user.”
