Corsair MM800 RGB Polaris Gaming Mouse Pad Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The MM800 launches today, 2nd Septermber, and will be available at all the usual major retailers with an MSRP of $59.99.

Overview

For many, an RGB mouse mat is just a step too far for their desktop setup, or even for their budget, but we cannot deny the visual impact it can have, especially if you’re pairing it up with other RGB peripherals. If you’ve got the Corsair keyboard, you’ve got the Corsair mouse and even the headset, and you’re playing around with cool RGB configurations already, then the MM800 RGB Polaris is going to fit right in and complete the set.

The lighting is much better than I expected, not that I was thinking it would be bad, but it’s certainly brighter and more vivid than I had hoped. When it comes to showing off your favourite colours and effects, the MM800 really does shine through very nicely and watching the lighting effects such as the rainbow effects wave around the edges and over the top of the mouse is surprisingly satisfying.

The build quality is very nice, with a hard wearing rubber grip base, and a low-friction light texture top panel that’s great for work and gaming, and seemed to have no issues with optical or laser mice. The loss of a USB port can be a problem for some system builds, but thanks to the USB pass-through at back of the MM800 is a welcome bonus that means you can hook your mouse directly to the mat, saving you the need for more ports. The edges are very nicely finished too, with a durable clear plastic trim that allows lots of light through, but even looks nice with the lights off.

Overall, a great product that is a compliment to any RGB equipped setup, even more so with a Corsair RGB gaming setup and while the lighting is the key feature, this is still a robust gaming surface that is suitable for anything from the office to pro gaming.

Pros

  • Durable build quality
  • Hard-wearing top surface
  • USB pass-through
  • Braided cable
  • Excellent lighting effects
  • Good size

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • May be a step too far for some RGB lovers, but it’s really a subjective thing

“Durable, stylish and full of RGB goodness, the MM800 RGB Polaris is one of the slickest looking mouse mats out there right now. It’s a little expensive, but in terms of aesthetics and usability, you really do get what you pay for.”
