Corsair RM 750X 2018 Edition Gold Rated Power Supply Review

A Closer Look

The Corsair RM 750X is a solid looking cooler with all the design features we have come to know so well from their brand. With the matt-black finish and bold Corsair logo to the side, it manages to look highly professional and well put together.

Fully modular units are far more common these days, but we are still always grateful to see them. It is, after all, something of a relief with power supplies when you only have to fit the cables you need for the components you have. Rather than, of course, just having a huge bunch sprouting from the back. In this regard, the Corsair RM 750X has a large bank of power options available to ensure that you should have no difficulty connecting everything within your system with minimal fuss.

Since it offers a passive cooling mode at low loads, ventilation is very important. As such, the cooler has a nice large intake vent with a Corsair own brand fan as well as a nice large exhaust plate.

Ultra Low Noise

While the Corsair RM 750X power supply does not have hybrid cooling options, it does have its own ‘ultra-low noise’ technology. With this, the fan is designed to not operate at all at low output and only at minimal levels during medium output. This has been designed to give the best performance while keeping the noise level as low as possible.

Accessories

Inside the box, aside from the power supply of course, you will find everything you need ready to get going. You have your manual, warranty information, zip ties for cable management and even a USB stick. Now, whats the point of the USB I hear you ask. In fairness, I did wonder that myself. Corsair has taken the liberty of including a copy of the test results for the power supply on the stick in a text document. So even if that doesn’t interest you, you get a free USB stick. Happy days!

In a Corsair branded bag you will find all of the cables necessary to hook up to the components on your system. While these are itemised above, put simply you are given more than enough to achieve whatever task any strong gaming PC should need.

Interior

The interior of the unit looks very well organised. In many cases, the interior of a power supply can be cluttered and untidy. Something which can lead to bad airflow and by proxy requiring the cooling fan to work harder. This, however, is definitely not the case with the Corsair RM 750X. Everything is very well organized and neatly laid out. A particular feature is the bank of heat syncs which are designed to keep this running as cool as possible. An important factor given that this power supply is designed to not operate the fan unless really necessary.

In what is a little unusual, the power supply is largely based on 2 large capacitors, rather than 1 single. The first is rated 390uf to 400v with the second (slightly larger) rating 470uf to 400v. These are both manufactured by Nichicon who is a well known and established Japanese brand. All additional capacitors also appear to be manufactured by Nichicon. As such, all components appear to conform with the fully Japenese-made design that Corsair promotes.

The Corsair RX 750X power supply uses a Corsair brand fan. As you would expect. In terms of performance and aesthetics, there is very little to be said that isn’t already well known with Corsair fan products. While it isn’t the best looking fan we’ve seen, it looks well made and as such should do a more than competent job. At least, on the occasions when the power supply calls it to do so.
