Cougar 600M Gaming Mouse Review

Final Thoughts

Price

At time of writing, retail stock of the Cougar 600M is limited. However, there are loads of these, most likely from import for just under £40. This is incredible value for money given the overall performance and features of this mouse, it’s certainly one of the best mice in this price range. The mouse is pretty new, so we expect more retailers will have stock over the coming weeks and months.

Overview

I must admit that at first, I didn’t like this mouse. The garish orange design is just too loud and doesn’t fit in with anything I own; unless you count the pack of luminous marker pens I’ve got in my cupboard. However, you shouldn’t judge it based on looks alone and Cougar have really delivered in the performance department; the 600M is a fantastic gaming mouse.

The ADNS-9800 laser sensor doesn’t disappoint and offers up accurate performance that’s great for gaming. There’s very little jitter, even at high DPI settings and the addition of a sniper button function means you get the best of both worlds. When you want blazing high DPI settings for quick turning, you can have them, but if you need to quickly drop the DPI to score a headshot, it’s within easy reach.

Programmable buttons aren’t exactly innovative, but they’re still a welcome feature on the 600M. Being able to tailor shortcuts, button configurations, DPI settings and more over three profiles is very handy; being able to save all these settings directly to the mouse is even better.

Build quality is very good overall. The mouse is durable and all the panels feel pretty tough. The addition of the soft touch rubber gives the mouse a premium look and feel, while also providing extra grip. The colour may not be to everyone taste, but credit goes to Cougar for creating a mouse that looks unique; you can of course also pick up the black model.

Pros

  • Excellent sensor performance
  • Unique shape
  • Very good for claw-grip play-styles
  • Fully programmable buttons
  • Soft Touch rubber finish
  • RGB lighting
  • Sniper button
  • Glides easily on hard and soft surfaces
  • Good value for money

Cons

  • Bright orange is a little garish

“The Cougar 600M looks unique, both in terms of colour choice and shape. It offers incredible performance and it’s a great choice for those who want a great gaming mouse, without spending a lot of money. It may not be ideal for day-to-day work, but when it comes to play time, the 600M delivers in a big way.
