In a cold load test we run the PSU in an open air environment to see what the unit is capable without the limiting factor of heat. We hook the PSU up to our load tester and measure the voltage of the various rails as well as measuring the efficiency.
I was extremely impressed with the excellent voltage regulation this unit provided, it surpasses that of far more expensive units I’ve reviewed such as the Antec High Current Pro. What particularly impressed me was how close the voltage was to 12V at 100% load, and how little it went over it at 20%. The efficiency of this unit is also good- all the signs so far are typical of a high end PSU. The minor rails were also very well regulated which are normally let slip by most manufacturers.
