Cougar STX 550w Non-Modular Power Supply Review

Over Power Protection and Max Wattage

With this particular model of the Cougar STX supporting 550w, we didn’t expect massive OPP results when tested. There are, after all, limits to what extra you can squeeze at the lower end of the wattage scale. Despite this though, the testing found that at least an addition 20% could be outputted before protections came into place.

While this isn’t a massive margin, it is a comfortable one. I would, however, suggest that it’s better to think of it as exactly that. I would not recommend thinking that anything beyond the 550 watts is going to be reliable.
