Cubitek Mini Cube Mini-ITX Chassis Review

Overall I really enjoyed working with the Cubitek, it’s a little different to other M-ITX chassis on the market and as far as I’m concerned that is only a good thing. A lot of chassis can be the same old story and once in a while a company comes along and does things their way, while that way may not be perfect for everyone it does give you a broader choice dependant on the type of system your looking to build.

I have managed to fit this chassis out with with a powerful motherboard, Intel Core i5 and GTX 560 Ti, making it a solid gaming rig by most standards and that’s an impressive spec for such a small chassis, but its not without its draw backs that you should address if you’re considering this chassis. The lack of any included fans is quite an issue for me, especially given the price of the chassis puts it onto the premium end of the market, a single 90mm high quality exhaust fan is absolutely required should you wish to purchase this chassis and it would have been better value for money had this been included.

I think Cubitek are selling themselves short marketing this as a gaming chassis, yes it can be turned into a great gaming system and there is even room to fit high end components, CPU coolers and more in here should you wish to. Yet I think its main selling point is simply its style as there is no denying this is one sexy looking chassis. I’m a big user of HTPC systems and while some like to hide their media PC out of the way I think this one looks so good it could quite happily sit along side any home entertainment system. Add to this the stealth mounts for all your hard drives and it is possible to get a solid amount of storage into the chassis thanks to the cable management and out of the way mounting solutions. Its compact size also makes it a good solution for those wanting to build a system around products like the A series of APUs from AMD.

Sure this chassis isn’t cheap, but that is the premium you pay for a high quality finish on a fully aluminium build, this chassis is super light weight and the aluminium chassis is really well put together, rattle free and of course, shiny. People love things that stand out from the crowd and while this chassis is a little short from perfect it can still be made into a sleek, stylish and high performance system to suit your needs, so long as you put a little forward-thought into your component choices for the build to ensure you can maintain a good airflow and steady temperatures, but of course this much is true of any system build.

I would quite happily go out an buy one of these chassis tomorrow had I not already filled my HTPC requirements recently, while I would like to see it bundled with some fans I still think its worth the retail price based on its build quality and visual appeal, which is why I am still happy to award it with our eTeknix Editor’s Choice Award.
