Death Stranding Directors Cut PC Release Confirmed with $10 Upgrade Fee!

Death Stranding

Death Stranding (on PC) was one of the best games I had played in years. Yes, I know, opinion was divided among the community between those who loved it, and those who hated it (with very few seemingly falling in the middle). For me though, even with the wackiness of Hideo Kojima being let entirely off the leash, it was nothing short of a masterpiece. – Over the last few months, however, I have had more than a little growing urge to give it another playthrough. The only thing that was stopping me was the upcoming release of the ‘Director’s Cut’ version that had been brought to the PS5 back in the Summer of last year. – Put simply, I was holding fire until the new upgraded version was released.

Well, with it now confirmed to arrive on March 30th, there is a little bit of bad news for those who already own it on PC. – Following a report via RockPaperShotgun, it has been confirmed that the ‘upgrade’ to the Director’s Cut will be coming with an additional fee!

Death Stranding Directors Cut

As part of the report, it has been confirmed that people who currently own a copy of Death Stranding on PC will have to pay a charge of £9/$10 to upgrade it to the Director’s Cut version. Now, while this isn’t an overly huge amount of money (and yes, I will still be paying it), this is, to the best of my knowledge, the first time that this ‘upgrade fee’ has been applied to a PC title.

It is, of course, very common for PS4 to PS5 transitions, but I can’t help but potentially view this as being the first of a new blanket policy when PC titles now get a more polished upgraded version.

Savvy Consumers! – Pay Attention!

While you can check out the official Steam website for Death Stranding Director’s Cut here, when this version is released in its standalone version on March 30th, it’ll likely come with a pretty hefty price tag (probably something in the region of £50). More so, this may (in terms of the store) completely supplant the original version.

Given that we know that the upgrade is only(?) going to cost £9/$10, however, the savvy consumer may have noticed that as part of the Lunar Sales Event, Steam currently has the base version on sale for just £16.49. – With this in mind, therefore, an early purchase now, and subsequent payment of £9 on top of that on March 30th, will still likely represent a huge discount for those who don’t yet own it, but really want to try this Director’s Cut release out.

With a little buy-now play later thinking, you could effectively get this title for half price (in theory).

If you do, therefore, want to check that potentially huge deal out, you can visit the ‘base’ version of Death Stranding via the link here!
