DeepCool Gamerstorm Assassin III Air Cooler Review

How Much Does it Cost?

With an MSRP of £79.99, (circa $89.99) in terms of high-performance air coolers, this certainly represents some solid value. It’s hard to overlook the fact that this price is very similar to the Noctua NH-D15 to the point of almost matching it exactly. There are, however, more than a few factors that tip this in favor of the DeepCool GamerStorm Assassin III.

With the strong combination of performance and aesthetics provided here (of which with air coolers the two aspects very rarely meet), this is exceptionally well priced! You can check for stock on Amazon UK here and Amazon US here.

Overview

We have to admit that in terms of the design, performance, and aesthetics, we really like the DeepCool Assassin III. This has, without a doubt, been one of their most impressive releases to date and throughout every aspect of it, you can clearly see that they have put a lot of effort into this product.

While DeepCool is a pretty big manufacturer, this is (at least in our opinion) their first truly massive swing at some of the biggest names in the high-end cooler market. This is like (and with no disrespect to DeepCool) Ford trying to take a swing at Ferrari. As proven with the GT, however, occasionally Ford can release something that manages to not only surprise their competition but to also trump it too!

While the DeepCool GamerStorm Assassin III is impressive enough in its own right, this might be a strong indication that DeepCool is ready to step up to a whole new level in the market.

Should I Buy One?

We are always somewhat reluctant to draw direct comparisons in our reviews. That being said, however, we shouldn’t overlook the fact that DeepCool is the one who brought this up. Particularly so in their rather aggressive marketing. The DeepCool Assassin III has, very clearly, taken aim at Noctua here in producing this cooler as not only a decent comparative option, but one that is, in many regards, better than it!

Is it better than it though? Well, that depends on what you consider to be the more important factors. In terms of performance, they are (at least in our testing) about on par with each other. As we noted earlier, for higher TDP processors, we believe that the Assassin III is, possibly (if not probably), the better cooler.

The clincher for us, however, is in the practical aspects rather than the performance. The Assassin III carries an amazing aesthetic and when combined with its very straight forward installation design, these are factors that certainly give the Assassin III a very significant edge. While it might not have any significant advantage in performance, it doesn’t have any notable disadvantage either. When added to the overall design and aesthetics, the DeepCool GamerStorm Assassin III gets a big thumbs-up from us!

Pros

  • One of the best coolers DeepCool has ever produced
  • Excellent levels of cooling performance
  • Easy to install (particular in terms of big high-performance air coolers)
  • Strong aesthetics – For a large air cooler, this looks really good!
  • A genuine and legitimately successful swing at some of the best air-coolers currently on the market

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • DeepCool might be able to change some minds with the Assassin III, but this might not be enough to change some cream and beige coloured hearts.
  • As a large air cooler, you’re going to want to make sure your chassis has plenty of room to accommodate it.
