Deleting Your Dragon’s Dogma 2 Save Could Cause Denuvo to Brick the Game

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has had a rocky launch, albeit not much more rocky than any other big-name title seems to have these days, but it is what it is. Thankfully, CAPCOM seemed to be relatively open about the faults and pledged to resolve them as soon as possible. However, I was eager to play this game for like… forever, but because of the state it is in, I’ll be waiting a few months until the iron out the creases.

However, on PC the game’s performance is especially bad, and this is largely being blamed on the use of Denuvo, everyone’s favourite DRM beast from hell. To throw salt into the wound that is DRM, legally owned copies may brick the game if you do something simple… delete your save files on PC.

What’s the Problem?

Basically, posts on reddit and in Steam reviews now believe that deleting your save game is causing Denuvo to trigger a new activation of the game. What’s more, manually deleting the save game is the ONLY way you can manage your save right now, as there’s no official in-game way to clean that data out… doh!

The Solution?

Capcom needs to add an option to start a new game that doesn’t involve you finding the saved files in Explorer and deleting them yourself.

Typically games make it very easy to delete a new save and start a new game. Sadly, that’s not the case with Dragon’s Dogma 2, and the only way you can delete a save on PC has fans warning other players that they are at risk of Denuvo bricking their product.

Gamers Reporting Denuvo Bricking Their Game/Account

One redditor posted that “Each time you delete your save, Denuvo counts it as a new activation… People are already bricking their accounts on the Steam forums.” with some Steam reviews saying similar, “Was putting together a compatibility guide for playing the game under Linux/Steam Deck which required me to use various Proton versions… Apparently each of these counted as an individual PC and triggered the Denuvo tamper protection… Now I can’t play at all on any of my systems for the crime of trying to help more users enjoy the game.”

However, keep in mind that this issue has not been officially confirmed, but given how crap Denuvo is and how much Capcom has dropped the ball, I’d still take note of this one and act accordingly because you potentially brick your account.
