Dell did make many attempts to enter the smartphone market with both Android and Windows’ OS devices, but Dell’s Streak and Venue Pro Windows line-ups didn’t do what Dell wanted the most. According to Dell’s head of consumer business, it requires a lot of investments to be successful.
As of now, Dell will stick to selling PC systems with Windows 8 and Tablets with Windows RT, even though Microsoft is having trouble selling Windows RT. When spoke about Android, he said:
It’s a content play with Android. Amazon is selling books and Google is making it up with search. So far we couldn’t find a way to build a business on Android.
He also did clarify that Dell did try to explore a market with Android OS and they’ve done a lot of work in their labs.
