Desert Bus for Hope 2017 has concluded. Raising over $650,000 for charity, the gruelling marathon gaming event spanned over 158 hours.
Starting last week, we reported how the charity event was celebrating its 11th year in operation. Raising money by playing what is quite possibly the worst ever game, the charity has now raised over $4m in its lifetime for good causes. All by just playing an awful game? Sounds easy right? Well, you clearly have never played Desert Bus if you think that.
Running for 158 hours, the event fell just 12 hours short of running for an entire week.
Starting in 2007, Desert Bus for Hope is one of the longest-running gaming marathon charities. In addition to Games Done Quick, it represents one of the major charity events on the gaming calendar.
The challenge itself is simply playing the game. However, the game is a real-time driving challenging to reach Las Vegas in a bus. With each trip taking roughly 8 hours and god-awful mechanics designed to make you go nuts, its one of the worst and toughest games around.
The only highlights of your trip are the occasional bug splatter on the screen, beeping the horn or opening the door. That’s it.
While plans for a sequel to Desert Bus never seemingly made the light of day, the charity seems more than happy making the trip for years to come.
If you missed the event, it isn’t too late to donate and they are currently uploading ‘highlights’ to their YouTube channel. You can issue a donation via their official website and it’s all for a worthy cause.
