This remarkable achievement sets Dragon’s Dogma 2 apart, especially when compared to its predecessor, which took a month to sell 1.05 million units after its release in May 2012. Capcom’s strategic promotional efforts aimed at both series veterans and newcomers, including a free app for creating player avatars and celebrity collaborations, played a key role in this success.
Despite Controversy, Success Continues
Despite debates over microtransactions and performance issues on PC, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has become the biggest launch for a single-player game on Steam under Capcom’s banner, boasting over 220k peak concurrent players. Following this launch success, Capcom is considering further expansions, signalling potential DLC on the horizon.
