A Closer Look
The ECS H67H2-M from the start is a very sexy board and has a attractive black, grey and white colour scheme which is highlighted on every aspect of the board.
The passive cooling design is quite large in comparison with other boards but gives sufficient cooling when needed and doesn’t block the CPU socket, meaning that larger coolers can be installed quite easily.
The board has the usual 4 slots for memory, operating in dual channel mode with support of up to 32GB of DDR3 1333 or 1066MHz memory. ECS do make it clear that they have only tested this board with 16GB of memory, so be warned if you are looking at using more.
Expansion slots aren’t in full swing on this board, but being a H67 based board, we don’t expect that with its multiple display outputs on the rear I/O. Instead we see a single PCI-Express x16 slot, two PCI-Express x1 slots and a legacy PCI slot, which we can see being more than ample for the type of user buying this board.
Front panel connectors are indeed plentiful with the usual suspects of front panel audio, SPDIF, four USB 2.0 headers and some unusual features with a TPM header (Trusted Platform Module) and Me_Unlock header. Sitting in the corner sees some sexy looking buttons for powering on and resetting, though these type of buttons are usually seen on boards that are made for overclocking.
The board comes with five SATA ports, the SATA 3 (6Gbps) ports are grey whilst the remaining three white ports are SATA 2 and are all supported under the H67 chipset. This board also has support for RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 configurations.
Power connectors is nothing out of the ordinary with a standard 24-pin power connector by the memory slots and an 8-pin situated behind the CPU socket.
The rear I/O is where the H67 boards really shine with plenty of connections for display, four to be in fact which are VGA, DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI. We also have a clear CMOS button, four USB 2.0 ports (red and black), two USB 3.0 ports, eSATA (red) port and twin Gigabit LAN. For audio we have 7.1 analog and SPDIF optical out.
