Elgato Cam Link 4K Review

Final Thoughts

How Much Does it Cost?

The new Elgato Cam Link 4K is priced at just £119.95 on Amazon or around $150 in the US. It’s super important that you buy the right model though, as the none 4K (or HD) model looks exactly the same. They didn’t change the outer design, the old one and new one look identical. Furthermore, they cost about the same too. This new 4K model is a direct replacement of the old one, which will be unavailable to buy, but the stock is still in the wild. You can also order one directly from most retailers, or from Elgato directly.

Overview

When it comes to capturing video footage, there are a wealth of options on the market already. However, the bulk of video input capture devices are very gaming focused right now. For example, the Elgato Game Capture 4K60 Pro is currently priced at £359.95. That’s what you want if you want to record footage from PC or console gaming and it’s very good at the job, even if it’s pretty expensive.

However, the Cam Link 4K is meant purely for your DSLR, mirrorless, or any other kind of compatible video camera only. It’s not really designed for gaming devices. It’s also pretty darn cheap for what it is, and some competitor products can cost more than double while offering no extra features.

Performance

As I said before, you really do get out what you put in with the Cam Link. If you hook up a dusty old camera with that only records in 720p, well that’s what you’ll get. However, since we can hook up our professional studio mirrorless camera, we can feed that into Windows in glorious 4K. Since Windows then picks that input up at a webcam, we can use it in a huge range of compatible software, such as Skype, OBS, YouTube live, or most video editing software. For those creating YouTube and streaming content, this is a powerful addition to your setup indeed.

Should I Buy One?

If you’re looking for a way to hook up a fancy camera to your PC or Mac, then you’ll struggle to find anything better. There are capture devices on the market right now that are bulkier, more expensive, and have equal or fewer features. When it comes to offering up great features, ease of use, and a competitive price, the Cam Link 4K wins hands down.
