Twitter may soon be providing a new way for publishers to earn money from their content through Twitter.

Twitter Per-Article Charging

Elon Musk announced via a tweet, that the platform will be allowing media publishers to charge users on a per-article basis with just one click. This system will allow users who don’t want to sign up for a monthly subscription, to instead pay a higher per-article price when they just want to read an occasional article. Currently, Musk hasn’t provided any further information on this topic and how prices will be calculated but it looks like it could end up being cheaper than paying for a full monthly subscription if you just read 1 or 2 articles from a publication.

In my opinion, paying to read an article that will take up no more than 5 minutes of your time is just one hell of a waste of money, imagine if you had paid £1 to read this. You could argue people pay for newspapers every day and I’d say there’s a valid argument there, but internet news and media are so vastly different and expansive that it makes the comparison difficult to back up.
