EverQuest’s producer Thom Terrazas has announced that in celebration of the game’s 13th anniversary, the game is going to be free-to-play. Additionally, several other perks were unveiled to keep the fans playing in the future.
Just like many MMO’s that went F2P, the game will now offer three different membership levels. Starting from the top, for $15 per month, players can keep up to eight characters with full access to all classes, races and items. In second place, $5 a month gives you most of the previously mentioned perk, however restrictions apply. Lastly, what it is all about, the free membership will allow players to maintain up to two characters although levels caps will be included as well as further restrictions on items and races.
The free membership is designed principally for players new to the game, or those completely new to MMORPGs, to have a go at the game without having to invest anything. Additionally, the studios also hope to bring back some of its former players.
Furthermore, new content has been added for both the old and new players. Gamers can take part in ‘Lucky 13’; a set of 13 different quests to celebrate the game’s anniversary. The team also announced recently that a new continent will be finished within the next year.
Thirteen years earlier, EverQuest introduced the genre to many core components that is now part of most of today’s MMORPG titles and has aged extremely well compared to other in its category.
