F1 2012 PC Review

So overall then a really strong outing from Codemasters and F1 2012, I was plesantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this game and look forward to seeing just how well I finish up at the end of the race season.

While I never have and likely never will be a full on fan of Formula 1, this is still a great racing game. It offers a great challange to racing fans simply because of the speed and precision of the cars. There isn’t any of the junkers and Nissan Sunny starts here, no grinding your way through Sunday Club races to work your way upto the sports cars. You strap in and get the full F1 speed from the start.

If you are a F1 fan then this game is sure to entertain you with all the names and track locations people will have come to expect for you to master. Letting you take the drivers seat and live out the fantasy of being an F1 star from your own couch, unless of course you’ve invested in a more complex racing setup for you PC.

Now I can’t give you an opinion on how this compares to F1 2011 unfortunately, having not played a real F1 game since the Playstation 1 (honestly). But what I can say is that this is a competent racing game in its own right. The graphics are superb throughout, car models and track representations are very accurate. There are no music tracks here to distract you from the race, just the scream of the engine and your pit crew on the headset. There are a great selection of modes and challanges to keep you entertained and even a handy included benchmarking tool to test your systems performance.

So if you’re an F1 game fan this game is bit of a no brainer, you should love it. If you’re just a general racing game fan then there is still plenty on offer to keep you entertained, even if you don’t understand the full complexities of Formula 1 there are still plenty of opportunities for some fun gameplay and exciting races. It’s because of this solid mixture of pick up and play and hardcore racing sim that I am more than happy to award F1 2012 with our Games Choice Award.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
