Facebook Sued For Cambridge Analytica

At this point, you can only imagine that 2018 can’t end soon enough for Mark Zuckerberg. While I daresay he might have a relatively nice Christmas, in terms of his Facebook platform it’s been a year to forget. Stagnating user figures, content issues and data sharing scandals have rocked the company consistently this year. It does, however, appear that things are not looking to get better any time soon.

In a report via the BBC, after around 9 months since the scandal broke, the social media site is facing official legal action in America for the Cambridge Analystica scandal. Worse, the person who has issued the suit is certainly not a private citizen. He just happens to be one of America’s top lawyers!

Attorney General

Karl Racine, who has issued the lawsuit, is not just a lawyer. He also happens to be the Attorney General for the Columbia district. He is, put simply, considered to be one of the ‘biggest’ legal operators in Washington DC. As such, when you’re getting sued with him at the helm, it’s time to get more than a little worried! I know I would be!

What Is The Lawsuit Alleging?

Well, the factor is actually rather simple, yet complicated. The case is largely based on the manner in which our data was available for companies like Cambridge Analytica. Specifically, they way they exploited it well beyond the terms of any implied agreement. It will, however, look deeper into the way the social media site actually gathers our data and the (undisputed) manner in which it distributes it with third-parties we may not necessarily be aware of.

Oh well. If someone wants to get Mark Zuckerberg a last minute Christmas present, a good lawyer might be a nice idea.

What do you think? Should Facebook face further punishment over this matter? Surprised the case was submitted to long after the fact? – Let us know in the comments!
