Helldivers 2 is a popular game from Arrowhead Games which pits you up against alien bugs fighting for freedom and democracy and gamers are happy with it. Yesterday the game had two fake versions of itself appear on Steam
Fake Helldivers 2
Since removed, two fake versions of Helldivers 2 were listed on Steam as shared by Wario64 on Twitter. These fake versions of the game aimed to scam users by offering sale prices of the game which was aided by their pages looking highly legitimate with the correct images, Arrowhead game Studios as developer and PlayStation as the publisher. The only tell-tale signs were the lack of reviews, wrong release date, and incorrect user tags
One of the games which was renamed was Figurality, and by looking on SteamDB the name changes and description changes can be seen. The original game was some puzzle game judging by the screenshots.
VIA eurogamer, Helldivers 2 developers Arrowhead released the following message:
“People posting as us trying to scam people is obviously very sad and frustrating, and for that as well as for security reasons we urge you to stay clear of them,” Arrowhead’s community manager wrote. “Again, the only two Helldivers 2 products we market are Helldivers 2 and Helldivers 2 Super Citizen Edition.”
Valve were said to have acted “very swiftly” to remove the fake versions of the games, but it is still quite interesting that this can happen in the first place.
