Taiwanese based manufacturer Foxconn, who manufactures iPhones, iPads and Sony’s Playstation, spent $200 Million to buy a minority stake of 9% in U.S. Camera maker GoPro and Woodman Labs.
To those who don’t know, GoPro manufactures point-of-view HD cameras that are mountable on bikes, helmets and also on surfboards, a choice that is preferred by many extreme sports enthusiasts for action filming. It was also used by Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner during his record breaking free-fall from 39 Kilometres in October. These cameras are priced between $200 and $400.
Since Foxconn has a minority share, Foxconn’s founder and Chief Executive Terry Gou will be on the board of GoPro.
