Gamer Storm MF120 Chassis Fan Kit Review

Final Thoughts

How Much Does it Cost?

At the time of writing, we do not have a firm price for the Gamer Storm MF120. Provisional prices would indicate that it will retail for something in the region of £80-£100. Now for system fans that might on the surface seem quite costly. This kit, however, is definitely something exceptional. With the clearly quality design, the RGB effects and the wireless control clearly require a slight premium in price for. For that though, you are truly getting a cooling system that provides some exceptional performance while looking exceptionally good while doing it.

Overview

From a design standpoint, the Gamer Storm MF120 is absolutely faultless. The packaging quality is beyond reproach and it immediately lets you know that you’ve got a quality product on your hands here. In terms of the cooler itself, not only does it look good, but clever decisions have been made both in terms of design and practicality to ensure that this should be suitable for the vast majority of chassis designs.

If we had to pick fault, and it is very minor, then the wireless controller does feel a little lightweight. While we had no concerns over the product in terms of its fragility, a little more substance would be more reassuring.

Performance

Given that these are system fans, performance is really relative to what the fans can do. With a 56CFM airflow, these fans can clearly get the air moving which is exactly what you want from performance air coolers. In addition, the fans are also capable of operating at anything up to 2200RPM with a 10% accepted variance. This is considerably faster than most system fans to which often the fastest achievable speed is 1400RPM.

Before you point it out, yes, there are fans that operate as fast if not faster. We do, however, also have to look at another factor.

Acoustics

The system packaging does indicate an operating noise level of 37.9DBA. From our testing, this was only consistent at the lowest speed. When running at the 2200RPM maximum, without a doubt the Gamer Storm MF120 gets noisy. We recorded sound levels as high as 58DBA which while it isn’t ear-splitting, would certainly be noted.

The truth is though that there are very few logical reasons why you would need to run the fans at the top speed. Let alone for a consistent period. As such, we would suggest that noise levels are generally higher than Gamer Storm would like you to believe, in standard usage (or even overclocked) with regulation via the wireless app, there is no reason why this should be a problem for you.

The RGB lighting design is one of the best I have seen. It is bright and bold while also somehow remaining understated. It again speaks of some very clever decisions made in terms of the design.

Design

It is again difficult to find any fault. I really like these system cooling fans. Attention to detail has been paid everywhere it could with the Gamer Storm MF120. The packaging is exceptional. The fan design is unique and impressive. The RGB controller (something which could have been drab) is both stylish and accessible. The wireless controls are easy to use. It is simply hard to fault this on any level.

While this is perhaps reflected in the price, you are definitely getting what you pay for here.

Should I Buy One?

In terms of system fans, the market is flooded with cheap and noisy fans. It is often tempting to get one of these in order to fill a void or attempt to get the system look you want. It’s for these reasons that I currently have around 10 system fans in my spares which I have accrued over the years.

While the Gamer Storm MF120 is clearly not inexpensive, you are getting an exceptional product for your money. One which could potentially last you for years to come. When you do break it down though, the price isn’t actually that bad. You are, after all, not only getting 3 fans, but you’re also getting a fully incorporated RGB lighting system. One which can also be operated by a smart device via wireless technology.

When you look at it like that, the product does seem to provide good value for money.

In addition to this, with solid performance levels and excellent lighting effects, I honestly struggle to find any fault with the Gamer Storm MF120.

If you’re looking for something special to complement your system build, this is definitely it.

Pros

  • Fantastic packaging and presentation immediately speak of a quality product.
  • Fan design is excellent, interesting and unique.
  • RGB lighting effects are bright and bold while also being understated.
  • The RGB lighting control via the WIFI hub is easy to set-up and use.
  • Excellent top-end fan speeds well beyond the capability of most.

Cons

  • None.

Neutral

  • The RGB controller is a little lightweight. Although not an issue in terms of any durability concerns, something a little more substantial would have been nicer.
