GamerStorm Castle 240 RGB AIO CPU Cooler Review

A Closer Look

The first thing I noted when removing the cooler from the packaging is that it is remarkably light. I’ve worked with a lot of 240mm coolers in the past and this one felt about half as heavy as those. That doesn’t mean to say though that design quality has been skimped on. Everything feels very solid and durable. Aside from the lightweight, there isn’t much to say regarding the radiator. It’s black and fairly standard if we’re honest. The pump block, however, is where things get really interesting.

Pump Block

The pump block is, without a doubt, one of the best looking I have ever seen. When it’s switched off it has this amazingly reflective surface. The pump block does, however, get even more impressive. When it’s switched on, that reflective surface disappears to show the GamerStorm logo and the RGB lighting operating in a ring. In addition, it has a nice sleek design.

Put simply, this looks great when it’s on or off and, as above, I’d go as far to say that it’s the best-looking pump block I’ve ever seen.

Despite this cooler is compatible with the vast majority of sockets (both Intel and AMD) this was pushed significantly as an option for the 2nd -generation of AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors. You may not be aware of this, but Threadripper processors are quite large. Roughly speaking about 50% larger than a standard CPU. With this in mind, the contact plate for the GamerStorm Castle 240 RGB is quite large. I would have perhaps liked to have seen a slightly larger one as the mounting on the Threadripper would bring the perimeter close to the screws attaching the contact plate.

Overall though, if you have a standard CPU the block is huge (which is good) and at the very least, you should not struggle with getting this into your Threadripper.

Fans and Overall Build Thoughts

The fans provided with the cooler are manufactured by GameStorm (DeepCool) themselves. These fans have a unique ribbed design. It’s unclear whether this is specifically to promote airflow or the highlight the RPG effects when operating. Either way though, they look very impressive and in the past, we’ve never had any problems with them.

When the cooler is fully assembled, it looks very impressive. Even when the lightings are not on. In terms of design at least, GamerStorm has provided us with a great looking cooler here.

RGB Lighting Video

With a product that has such extensive RGB lighting effects, it can be difficult to put into words exactly how these translate into real-world applications. We’ve therefore put together a brief video below showcasing both the cooling fans and pump head RGB effects.

We’ve cycled through the vast majority of the programs available to show you whats on offer. Don’t forget though that this cooler can be linked to your motherboard if it has sync capability. The manual controller included, however, is exceptionally useful too.
