Gearbox Are To Release Homeworld & Homeworld 2 Remakes On PC

Gearbox are one of my all time favourite developers, as too were Relic Entertainment, so imagine how happy I am to hear that Gearbox will be paying homage to the real-time strategy series Homeworld, which was created by Relic Entertainment and released back in 1999 and it’s fantastic sequel that followed it four years later!

Gearbox are working on a high-definition remake of both the games in the Homeworld franchise according to the announcement made this week at PAX Australia and they will be available for digital download on PC upon their release.

This is no big surprise of course given that Gearbox paid a tasty $1.35 million for the Homeworld IP back in April, but it’s good to see them make good on the purchase so quickly and in terms of games development they nabbed themselves quite the bargain.

Gearbox Chief Creative office Brian Martel said earlier this year that it intends to preserve the games and that they have a lot of respect for the Homeworld series, so it doesn’t sound like they intend to upset the original fan base, although that does suggest they may only give it a graphical overhaul, yet I do hope they take the game to the next level and apply some Gearbox magic.
