Gigabyte Force K7 Stealth Gaming Keyboard Review

Performance

The keyboard was super easy to setup thanks to its plug and play design, although it is fair to say that there aren’t many products out there that don’t just plug-in and work these days. There is no software to deal with here either, everything is dealt with from the keyboard and that means we don’t have access to macros or anything like that, but I bet there is a large portion of your reading this that never use those anyway, so lets not lose too much sleep over the lack of such a feature.

As you can see from the picture below the keyboard uses under key lighting that gives a smooth glow between the key gaps, the key caps also allow light through the font on the keys, but it’s quite a soft light and it has more class in real life than I can capture with my camera. What I mean to say is that it is subtle and looks really smooth, where as many gaming keyboard seem to feature LED lights that are either off or burning your eyes out with brightness.

While you can scroll through the three colour settings, the four LED indicators in the top right of the keyboard stay coloured in electric blue, this looks fine on the blue and teal keyboard lighting modes, but it does clash a little with the green lighting.

The scissor switch keys are an immediate joy to type on, giving a nice “popping” action similar to that of a new membrane keyboard, but giving you the actuation and return of a mechanical switch such as MX Reds. Typing feels fluid, quick and easy on the fingers. Those familiar with typing on notebooks will enjoy the typing action, but it’s not so close to a laptop keyboard to be off-putting to those who prefer a desktop board, again it feels like a bridge between the two, mixing mechanical and membrane switch action with the feel of both a full size desktop keyboard and that of a notebook.

This low action, responsive and fast key action really stands out while typing, but it makes gaming enjoyable too and when your constantly ducking and diving your way through Battlefield 3 you’ll certainly notice less finger fatigue after those long battles.

The keyboard is fundamentally a gaming keyboard and it is more than up to the job a long gaming session in League of Legends, Battlefield, Skyrim or what ever takes your fancy, but it really is a solid all-rounder and I found it to be one of the best day-to-day keyboards I’ve used in a long time, not just a good gaming keyboard.

So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
