Final Thoughts

The Gigabyte Force K7 Stealth Gaming Keyboard has taken my somewhat by surprise, I was expecting it to be a fairly run of the mill, budget friendly keyboard when I first got it. Shortly after I looked at the specifications and heard about the scissor switches and other features, my interest picked up and for around £40 it was starting to look like a “too good to be true” kind of product. I wasn’t expecting the earth when testing it either, but since I haven’t stopped using the keyboard as my main keyboard for two days now, I think it is safe to say that I enjoy typing on it.

It’s not enough to tempt me away from the premium keyboard I’m using at the moment though, and that is solely due to the fact I have configured many macros and short-cuts that I use in my daily work routine when editing images, documents and writing articles. Yet when it comes to actually typing in the details, or the often 2000+ words articles I write each day then the K7 takes the gold medal. I know a lot of people love Mechanical keyboards, but not as many as you might think and for me I just find them to be too damn noisy without modification and many membrane boards can often get tiresome on your fingers. The K7 bridges this gap beautifully with a quiet typing action, a nice “pop / click” sensation similar to that of both membrane and mechanical, a fast typing action like a mechanical and all of this is blended with some really nice key caps, ergonomic spacing and a rock solid chassis design.

It may not be perfect, but the lack of extra features such as dedicated macro keys, or customisable button configurations is justified by the incredible build quality and performance as well as the impressively modest price tag. Put simply, if you want more from a keyboard than what the K7 has to offer, then you need to look higher up the price range, but for under £50 you’ll be hard pushed to find anything else as nice as this.

Pros

  • The LED back lighting may only have limited colour choice, but it does look very nice and the 0-100% adjustment wheel is a nice touch.
  • Dual scroll wheels look cool and they’re practical too, more than just a gimmick.
  • Braided, high quality USB cable is a nice touch in this price range.
  • High build quality and durable legs, grips and keys add to the value for money.

Cons

  • No key customisation available and complete lack of any Macro functions.

“The performance of the K7 far exceeded my expectations, the build quality is of the same high quality we see in other Gigabyte products and the price is very reasonable, now all Gigabyte need to do is make a pro edition with a few extra functions and this keyboard will be perfect”.
