The Gigabyte GTX 1650 Gaming OC graphics card is available now from Amazon for just £157.99. Readers in the US can pick one up for just $169.99. That is a bit more than the £138.99 MSRP, but these are factory overclocked, with bigger coolers, and additional power delivery.
I think this is a fantastic entry-level card, and honestly, that’s about it. I’m hardly going to replace our RTX cards with these today. However, if I’m tasked with building a PC for about £400, which I often am, this is going to be the go-to solution. Decent 1080p gaming performance at a very reasonable price, and from a well trusted brand name. That’s hard to beat.
For 1080p gaming, it really does fit the bill quite nicely. Sure, there are faster card out there, but this really does raise the bar for the bottom rung of the gaming GPU market. We tested with High settings and scored near as makes no difference 60 FPS most things. Minor tweaks, most likely to the AA or shadows, would see that tip into the 60+ FPS zone. If you’re eager to push 1440p, I would suggest dropping to low-to-medium settings, or saving up for a more powerful card such as the GTX 1660.
That’s a tough call, as I suspect these will be more a GPU of convenience rather than desire. For building your first PC on a tight budget, they’re going to sell like crazy. It’s just about powerful enough, without spending a fortunate. For that reason alone, I think they’re a bloody bargain… even if they don’t exactly set your soul on fire with excitement.
