Power Consumption

To measure power consumption we use a killawatt meter and measure the total system power draw at the wall. We run three different use-case scenarios for 5 minutes and take the average reading.

Power consumption is a little lower than ATX boards at idle due to the Gigabyte Z97N-Gaming 5 having less controllers and devices to power. At load the effect of the CPU effectively normalises all of the results to a closer margin. We did however notice the Z97N-Gaming 5 consumes nearly 20 watts more than the ASUS mini-ITX board which seems strange.
