Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 (LGA 1150) Motherboard Review

Overclocking

A new chipset doesn’t bring anything new to overclocking because we’re still CPU limited and we still have the same CPUs as Z87 – that’s until Haswell Refresh K series CPUs (Devil’s Canyon) arrive a bit later on this year. That said the Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 7’s 8 phase CPU VRM was easily capable of reaching 4.8GHz which is the maximum our chip can achieve before it reaches thermal throttling on our H100i. The overclock we dialled in used 1.27 volts.
