I daresay that many of you wouldn’t be overly surprised to be told that the internet (as a whole) hosts an incredibly large amount of duplicated content. Think of a video that’s available on YouTube. It’s incredibly unlikely if it’s proving mildly popular that this is the only site to end up hosting it. And then, of course, you’ve got the whole business of re-uploads from other people. – In more blunt terms, you could also put a similar comparison to *ahem* adult entertainment.

Put simply, the internet is full of a lot of copied data.

How much of it would you think that was though? Well, according to an official Google slide (courtesy of Twitter user ‘@suzukik‘, it seems that the tech giant believes that only around 40% of the entire internet is hosting original unduplicated data/information.

Google Says The Internet is Full of A Lot of the Same Stuff!

Now, if anyone was going to have a fairly solid idea as to what this figure would be, it would, of course, be Google. They are, after all, pretty much the world’s favourite (and most dominant) search engine. If anything though, I daresay most will likely be surprised that the figure isn’t higher. – Then again, without Google elaborating on exactly how it defines ‘duplicate’ it’s hard to know exactly how they came to this conclusion. I mean, what exactly is ‘duplicate’?

What do you think though? Are you surprised by this figure or would you have expected it to be higher? – Let us know in the comments!
