Hearts of Iron III Review

After having seen the main breakdown of how the game operates in this Hearts of Iron III review you should be able to see that Hearts of Iron III campaign is very complex and in depth with a extensive range of features. It is a game that certainly cannot be rushed and the decisions you make must be done with care because progress towards the aims you make for yourself will often be slow but ultimately rewarding.

Hearts of Iron III is certainly not a game geared towards for the mainstream gamer. HOI3 requires a great deal of thought, time and needs an inherent interest in World War II history and RTS games from the player to have an enjoyable experience. The game is extremely well thought out and gives the user many many options when choosing how to run the country of your choosing.

There is also a substantial amount of DLC that you can aquire which adds to the lifespan of the game since it gives you many more options and features. The game is very playable as an RTS, with you being able to change game speeds and give yourself more (or less) categories to manage by utilising the AI control feature, a particularly useful feature for first time players who may feel overwhelmed.

This game is certainly a must for any WW2 PC strategist , it incorporates so many variables that you couldn’t possibly run out of interest. However, as mentioned earlier this game isn’t a mainstream game, many people may find the sheer volume of options, features and customisations as too complex and for a world war two game the lack of real-time action battles might be a let down.

All in all this definitely a solid game and it will certainly provide you with hours of entertainment if strategy games are your thing. It is an accessible strategy game and very unlike its predecessors in the Hearts of Iron series, which were very difficult to get into. In terms of judging this game, I would say that it certainly isn’t flawless but it has done very well to be good at what it is intended to be.

Pros:

  • Lots of depth, variety and customisation
  • Historically accurate and detailed
  • Easy to run on most system

Cons:

  • Very time consuming, often seems laggy
  • Lack of action and fancy graphics
  • Poor buggy multi-player

You can pick up Paradox Interactive’s Hearts Of Iron III PC Game from GamersGate for £7.95 via digital download or on Steam for £7.99 by direct download with automatic installation.
