HyperX CLOUD Revolver S Pro Gaming Headset Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The HyperX Cloud Revolver S Dolby Surround 7.1 Gaming Headset is available for £133.98 from Amazon UK and $149.99 from Amazon US. This isn’t a cheap headset, but it’s the price you would expect from the flagship headset in the series. You can pick up the stereo version for around £90, and if you’re only using it on mobile devices and consoles, that’s certainly the way to go. However, if you want the USB adapter with the DSP sound processing and Dolby features, the extra investment is certainly worth it.

Overview

HyperX makes many of the best gaming headsets on the market today, and the Cloud Revolver Pro S is easily one of their best to date. The sound quality is flawless and will put a smile on the face of anyone who desires drivers with a flat response that gives an accurate representation of the audio, rather than the boosted sound we often hear from gaming headsets. That’s not to say headsets with a boosted bass sound are worse, it’s just about preference than anything else. With that in mind, the Pro S does have a tight low-end sound, and the DSP parameters and the Dolby mode give you the scope to tweak the sound to your liking too. You can still get that punchy sound, but you have an accurate starting point to begin with in terms of audio reproduction.

The multi-format support is one of the biggest selling points here. I game on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nvidia Shield TV and Tablet, PC, and mobile, and having one headset that can do it all is a big time, money and space saver. You don’t always want to have one headset for each, just one that you can unplug, connect to the next device and keep on rocking, and that’s what you get here. The price is a little higher than some gaming headsets, but you’ve got to look at the whole package to see the real value, and since this headset can do all formats, surround processing and more, it’s pretty fantastic value for money overall.

The build quality is superb, and that steel outer frame, combined with the beautifully finished soft leather and memory foam padding give it excellent long-term comfort, which also keeping it durable. I could confidently throw this headset in my backpack, and know that it’ll come out the next day in one piece. If you’re a bit of a heavy-handed gamer, it’s a good choice for you. Despite being heavy duty regarding build quality, it’s also surprisingly lightweight and has a low profile too. The ear cups are relatively flat given the size of the drivers, which is good news for those who don’t want heavy cans on the side of their head.

Overall, there’s nothing to fault about this headset. From the powerful sound to the nicely designed in-line controller, it’s got a something for everyone and every usage scenario, making it well worth the investment.

“If you’re looking for a headset that’s competent in an eSports arena, or for playing games on any console, desktop system, or mobile device, that still holds up well for listening to music on the go, or watching a few movies, the HyperX Cloud Revolver S is as versatile as they come!”
