A Closer Look – IS 50

The IS 50 featuers a slim 120mm fan mounted on the top, you’ll notice that the fan is actually much bigger than the heat sink below it, but I guess a smaller fan would also incur higher RPM for the same level of airflow, so that’s not such a bad thing. The fan features a standard 4-pin PWM connector.

Despite the larger fan, the heat sink is set pretty low, so chassis compatibility should be extremely high, with only ultra slim HTPC cases having any issues.

There are five heat pipes here too, which should help move heat from the CPU to the fan array which hovers slightly above the CPU block.

The five heat pipe design is set to make direct contact with the CPU and there’s a nice cut-away to the fin array here too, which should prevent any compatibility issues with your memory, dependant on which way you orientated the cooler.

The direct contact design is a simple, yet very effective method for coolers, it’s also pretty cost-effective. The pipes are nicely cut and the contact surface is nice and smooth, so we should get a good clean fit over the CPU.
