Conclusion

When Intel started to tease this drive a while ago, they did it with the promise to change the way we look at storage in our systems. There is no doubt that they succeeded with this and their SSD 750 Series is darn impressive. The drive easily performed the specified 2400MB/s reading and 1200MB/s writing and even went a good way past those numbers at times. The use of NVMe technology over SATA and coupled with the extra bandwidth that the PCIe 3.0 x4 slow has at its disposal gives this card up to four times the performance of a high-end SATA3 based drive.

The giant heatsink on the PCIe card doesn’t just look great and worth to show off in systems with side panel windows, it’s also incredibly effective at keeping the card and all its components cool in even the most demanding systems. Intel also used thermal paste rather than pads to give it the best possible heat transfer away from the components. There isn’t much that can stop this card, not here either.

The only downside to this card, that at the same time is its strength, is the NVMe technology. You will need a motherboard and BIOS that supports this and also have the proper drivers installed to rake the full benefits and performance that this drive has to offer.

But NVMe is also the upside to this drive. Said in a simple way, it is able to handle multiple requests a lot better than the SATA is thanks to a better connection with the CPU and being designed for use with NAND flash which results in random performance numbers previously unseen in this market segment. This is great news for everyone as it speeds up everything and not just sequential data transfers. It will improve pretty much anything in your system thanks to the increased performance.
