As you can see, delidding the i7-7700K dramatically changed the load temperatures at both 4.5GHz and 5.0GHz. More specifically, the stock thermal reading plummeted by 18C while the overclock temperatures fell by 19C. This is a massive change, even though it’s not quite the shocking 26C transformation recently reported by various media outlets.
The live temperature information during the various AIDA64 stress runs gives a great indication of the thermal changes. Please note, the original image for the 4.5GHz stock paste benchmark was misplaced so I had to include the run with the GPU and system memory tests flagged. Rest assured, the data was conducted using the same CPU/FPU/Cache process. Also, this is just a brief insight and the actual stress tests were run for a much longer period.
