Final Thoughts

Price

There’s certainly a big difference in price for these two devices, as the Kensington Pro Fit Wired Windows Gesture Mouse is available directly from Kensington for just £18.99 and the Kensington Expert Mouse Wireless Trackball is £99.99.

Overview

It has been great fun testing these two mice out this week, as they’re a welcome break for the gaming-focused hardware we often see. Both mice are literally the polar opposite of each other in terms of the functions they offer, and their prices couldn’t be further apart either, but both have shown us their strengths and both are very impressive products for their target markets.

The Pro Fit may not appeal to a lot of our readers, but don’t count it out yet, as for less than £20 it’s a really practical and user friendly product from a trust brand name, and if you’re using it in an office, as a travel mouse, or just need something for browsing the web or working, you’ll find a lot of value for money here. The gesture controls really do work and while it has fewer buttons than most mice, it still packs more functionality and that’s something we welcome here at eTeknix.

The real star of the show is the Expert Mouse. Sure, trackballs aren’t for everyone, as they’re all but pointless for many gamers who enjoy FPS type gaming, of course, if you play Sim City style games or RTS, then get ready for a real treat as the trackball provides long-term comfort and impressive accuracy for this type of gaming. When it comes to navigation, the trackball and its incredibly handy scroll wheel setup are king, and the same goes for those toying around with video/music/image editing software, the advantages of this mouse are even more noticeable. It takes up less space on your desk than a mouse would require, it’s more comfortable to use for long periods of time and the fully programmable buttons and profiles offer a lot of possibilities.

Pros

  • Great build quality
  • Detachable wrist rest (trackball)
  • Programmable buttons
  • Ideal for editing software (trackball)
  • Wireless (trackball)
  • Affordable (pro fit)
  • Gesture button (pro fit)

Cons

  • Quite expensive (trackball), but it is quite a specialist product
