Kingston drives don’t need a flashy cardboard box to house their products, instead a simple heat sealed pack will suffice, showing off the drive with its model & capacity above. Below the drive we find a box with the drives rated speeds for both USB 2.0 & 3.0 interfaces.
The back of the box is a little more simple with a few details on the drive featured in a number of languages.
After slicing the pack open to slide the drive out, we can get our first feel of the new third generation drive. Like the recently featured 1TB HyperX drive from Kingston, the DataTraveler Ultimate has a brushed metal exterior to compliment systems like the MacBook Pro and any other systems with a brushed metal finish; with the only plastics being on the inside of the sliding mechanism and internals.
The chunky feeling drive, which is not neccesarily a bad thing, measures in at 68.4 x 22.7 x 11.6mm with no cap required as the body slides together, pushing the USB plug out of one end.
On the opposite end of the drive we find a key loop branded with Kingston on both sides. On the top edge of the drive we can also see a white plastic tip that shows through the case, which diffuses a blue activity LED which lies beneath.
