Kolink Observatory Z Tempered Glass PC Case Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Kolink Observatory Z ARGB Super Midi-Tower PC Case is available right now from Overclockers UK. It’s currently priced at £119.99, making it one of the most expensive in the Observatory series, but keep in mind, this is a Super Midi Tower design, meaning it’s quite a bit larger and heavier than most, and those added raw materials quickly add up. The addition of an ARGB control hub, Type-C, dual tempered glass windows, and four premium ARGB 120mm fans are all expensive additions too. However, when you total it all up, the Observatory Z is competitively priced in today’s market.

Overview

I really like this case, and that’s hardly surprising, as it reminds me of quite a few other cases I’ve reviewed in the last few years. While it seems that the gaming PC case market has become a little formulaic, that’s hardly surprising. Tempered glass is clearly here to stay, I don’t see us heading back to acrylic anytime soon. The PSU shroud is now a standard feature we’ve come to expect too, as are the hidden SSD and HDD mounts. So while a lot of cases look the same, short of some big changes in PC building design, I don’t see that changing in a hurry.

The devil is often in the details though, and what Kolink deliver here is a surprisingly robust case design. The internal structure is very durable, and clearly built to last. We’re in a price bracket that competes with premium brands, and I’m happy to say Kolink can hold their own in that regard.

The attention to detail is good too, with little details like the flush-mounted glass on the left side and nicely designed front panel surround. It all looks very clean and professional, while some gaming cases tend to lean towards the more aggressive designs.

Three 120mm fans in the front and another 120mm fan in the back makes for excellent cooling and airflow right out of the box, which is great. However, this case can handle up to 420mm radiators or even 200mm fans, meaning you’re limited by little more than your imagination and budget when it comes to cooling configurations. The addition of dust filtering in the top, front and bottom of the case means you’ll have clean airflow, no matter what configuration you settle on.

It’s a shame the mounting bracket and GPU anti-sag bar had to be removed to fit an E-ATX motherboard. I would suggest sticking to ATX motherboards for that reason, but I’ll defend that it’s nice they’ve included the option to go larger if you really need to. Fortunately, no compromises have to be made for the PSU size, massive graphics cards, or larger air coolers, as Kolink provided ample room for all of that too.

If you’re looking for a clean and stylish case that still delivers some RGB thrills, and impressive future-proofing thanks to its larger case interior and comprehensive cooling configuration support, then the Kolink Observatory Z is a great option and very competitively priced given its level of features and the surprisingly robust build quality!
