LawBreakers Might Have Just Died Blaming PUBG For Poor Sales

Lawbreakers All But Killed

Lawbreakers had a difficult gaming life. There are many reasons for that. One of which certainly would be that it looked too similar for its own good to Overwatch. Now, given how fantastic Overwatch is, why would you want to play any alternative?

Surprisingly though, the publisher hasn’t blamed Overwatch for Lawbreakers failure, it’s blame PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

Sales for Lawbreakers have been very poor. If that wasn’t bad enough it’s my understand that the player count is so low its genuinely a challenge just to find an online game.

Despite initially intended to be a PC only exclusive, a PS4 release couldn’t help save the sales figures either.

In a report via DSOGaming, the publisher of the title may have finally decided to call time on the game as no further development or funding will be put towards it.

Despite a recent free weekend, even that seemingly failed to generate any interest in this title.

Why nearly dead?

Well, certainly the games creator, Cliff Bleszinski, hasn’t spoken on the matter yet. That being said, the publisher Nexon has released a rather wordy statement. Although I will be it in full below, the short version is ‘we didn’t make any money, we’re not spending any more and it’s all PUBG’s fault’.

“Our results in North America in the third quarter were below our outlook, mainly due to the sales from LawBreakers being below our expectations. LawBreakers is a unique FPS developed for core users. We had very high expectations for its launch; however, the timing of its launch turned out to be unfortunate, specifically the blockbuster PC online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds came out right about the same time. Making the market environment very tough for first-person shooters in general and for LawBreakers.”

Personally, I don’t buy it. PUBG and Lawbreakers are both very different games. Many have often criticised exceptionally poor marketing as being the real reason why it failed. Put simply, many believe (and I can’t say I disagree) that they did nothing in the advertising department to make people want this.

In fairness it was a decent game and it definitely deserved better than it got.

What do you think? Do you play Lawbreakers? Is this the death bell chiming? – Let us know in the comments!
