LG has finally announced the G Flex smartphone with a curved display which has been in and out of the news over the past couple of months. The LG G Flex is LG’s equivalent to Samsung’s Galaxy Round which also has a curved display. The LG G Flex has a 6 inch 720p OLED display, Snapdragon 800 SoC and 2GB of RAM. There’s also a 13MP camera and a couple of rear control buttons beneath it. LG’s G Flex curves from top to bottom, not side to side like the Galaxy Round, Engadget reports. Like LG’s G2 the G Flex is reported to have high-fidelity audio playback and recording, dual window app functionality and tap to wake. Furthermore, LG are claiming a “self healing” function on the phone which allows the coating to repair hairline scratches on the rear of the phone within minutes.
LG are taking a similar route to what Samsung did with the Galaxy Round as the LG G Flex is only being unveiled in South Korea with no global availability announcement or plans. This suggests that the LG G Flex could well be a test model for LG to see how well the whole “curved smartphone thing” works.
