A Closer Look – Exterior

The first thing any of you will notice is that we’ve got the red model (PC-Q34RD), although a silver, black and gold-coloured variant can be purchased. The red isn’t thick paint either but rather tastefully finished red aluminium with a lightly brushed finish to it. To my eyes, it makes the case look more pink than red under most lighting conditions, but we love the colour regardless. Down the left side, we’ve got a pop-off/push-on aluminium panel with a large ventilated area.

Around the right side, the same design, helping keep things nice and symmetrical.

The front of the chassis is very nicely designed, with angled edges at the top and bottom, giving it a little bit of flow on what would otherwise be a boring rectangle. There’s a small logo in one corner, and a simple but usable I/O section with dual USB 2.0 ports, power, and HD audio jacks.

Around the back, you’ll find two thumbscrews that lock the hinge in place, undo this and the top and front panel can be folded down for easy access. There’s a 120mm fan mount at the rear, two expansion slots, the motherboard I/O and the PSU bay; that’s all the basics covered.

We love the fan mount design, it’s not something you’ll even look at often, but it’s nice to see an attention to detail even on the less important aspects.

To the right of the PSU cut-out, there are three thumb screws, these hold the removable HDD bay in place on the chassis interior.

Finally, you’ll find four large rubber gripped feet on the base, and on the side of them a nice bit of silver trim to keep them looking smart. There’s a ventilated section at the base, giving airflow to the PSU.
