Linksys Launches EA9300 Tri-Band AC4000 Router

Linksys announced that they are now shipping their new 802.11ac Tri-Band MU-MIMO Router, the Linksys Max-Stream EA9300. The new EA9300 is an AC4000 MU-MIMO Tri-Band router that can deliver a combined wireless network speed up to 4Gbps.

“Our latest AC4000 Max-Stream MU-MIMO Tri-band router features blazing-fast Wi-Fi speeds up to 4Gbps, MU-MIMO technology, six high-gain antennas and three radios (one 2.4Ghz and two 5GHz) which help eliminate buffering or lag for movie streamers and gamers when everyone in the household is on the Wi-Fi network,” said Justin Doucette, senior director, product management at Linksys. “With upcoming new features such as Dual WAN capabilities, Link Aggregation or DFS, this router can work well for the most demanding home networks for super-fast video streaming and data backup or for work from home users that need a VPN connection to the office network for a more secure remote access connection.”

Wireless Network Features

Linksys’ EA9300 comes with the latest Wi-Fi 802.11ac Wave 2 technology and MU-MIMO (Multi-User, Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output). To explain the feature the simplest way would be to compare it to every Wi-Fi client having their own router and thereby not impacting each other’s performance. Beamforming will further make sure that the router strengthens the signal in the direction of your device.

The AC4000 rating and 4Gbps throughput sound like a lot at first but keep in mind that this is a tri-band router. That means that the three bands will have to share that total speed. Effectively, you’ll end up with two 1625Gbps 5GHz bands and one 750Mbps 2.4GHz band.

The EA9300 also features Airtime Fairness which allows faster devices to have more airtime than slower devices. The SmartConnect Band Steering will manage your connections and intelligently choose the best radio band for your devices. The router also features six external and adjustable antennas as well as nine high-power amplifiers.

Wired Network Features

There are four Gigabit LAN ports and one WAN port on the Linksys EA9300, but you can alter that setup if you like. It will also allow for one of the LAN ports to work as another WAN port. In return, that will give you the ability to run an aggregated internet connection with up to 2Gbps. However, you will need to apply a soon-to-be-released firmware update for this feature.

It isn’t just the WAN connection that gets link aggregation support with the upcoming firmware update; the LAN ports will get the same feature. Link Aggregations is a really welcome addition to routers.

More EA9300 Hardware Specifications

Linksys added two USB 3.0 ports for easy file sharing of external storage drives across your network. The EA9300 also comes with support for Amazon Alexa where it features three new skills. These skills can turn your guest access on and off, obtain your guest Wi-Fi login credentials, or have your normal connection details read back to you.

Inside the router are a quad-core 1.8GHz processor and three offload processors. There further are 512MB RAM and 256MB flash for the firmware.
