Mach Xtreme MX-ES 16GB USB3.0 Flash Drive Review

To round up this review, I’m going to break the conclusion down into two areas. Firstly, looking over the styling of the drive, the slim, stylish design is a breath of fresh air when compared to the chunky drives that we also find on the market. Don’t get me wrong, they’re nice and their chunk feel is appreciated, but sometimes the slim build is just as welcomed for similar reasons and this is something that we noted when we looked at the MX-GX last year. Its natural to see a drive like this in a compact package, and whilst the drive has a loop on its tail end for connecting to a key chain for example, there is no cord or the likes included but that said, a number drives these days don’t include these.

The metal housing of the drive is also a breath of fresh air from the armada of plastic drives that are out there – and some of these feel a lot more cheap and plastic’y that others.

Moving over to the performance side of things, for a budget USB3.0 drive, the read and write speeds are not that bad. Granted, it would had been better see the read speed surpassing the write speeds, but either way, pushing the speeds that it did is quite acceptable for the price and bang on the targets that Mach Xtreme quote the drive capable of. Mach Xtreme do also claim this drive to be optimised for Asus mainboards, however after trying this stick on a number of boards, we didn’t notice any noticeable difference across the range so one does wonder slightly in what aspect these drives have been ‘optimised’

On the whole its fair to say that this is a stylish little drive that can give a good level of performance what is a relatively low price when marked against the competition.
