Well, it’s hard to spoil much about this one, given that Metal Gear Solid is already older than I’m willing to admit, given I was there 3000 years ago playing it with a young Lord Elrond. I think it’s fair to say the time for spoilers has long since passed. Alas, you have been warned, the footage below does show you a lot of the early gameplay from the first game in the collection, but don’t worry, it’s all in Italian, so unless you can speak Italian, a lot of the finer details will be lost on you anyway Grande Capo!
YouTuber Irriducibile 86ss shared two videos, showcasing a couple of hours of gameplay from the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1. My first take is a good one too, as they haven’t remastered the iconic look of the first game. Yes, I know it’s not the FIRST game, there were the older Metal Gear games on the MSX, but the first in the MGS series. The second thing to take away is that there’s a nice home menu that seems to act as a jumping-off point for the various games, but also keeps the theme we’ve seen in previous Metal Gear game menus, so it all feels comfortingly familiar. It also appears you can pause cutscenes now too, which is nice.
Things that I am looking forward to again, however, are of course playing the trilogy again, it’s pretty fantastic. But we’ll also finally have Metal Gear Solid 3 on the PC, a first for the franchise. It is said that the PC version will be locked to 1080p, and MGS is 30fps, but given the game was created on PS1, that’s hardly shocking. Also, even at 30FPS MGS looks great, and has some pretty great motion blur and effects that make use of that framerate, at least, that’s my take on it, but it’s my all-time favourite game too.
Amazingly, the release date of this collection has crept up on me, and it comes out in a few days on October 24th on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC. Below is a complete list of the games included in this first collection.
