Microsoft already reduced the price of the Xbox One recently by removing the Kinect motion sensor from the base version of the console, this saw the price tumble from $499 to $399. Now it appears Microsoft is preparing another price-drop, which it is going to coincide with the Gamescom 2014 event. The new price for the base version of the console is expected to fall from its current €399 in Europe to €349, this should result in a similar price drop in the North American market from $399 to $349. Microsoft badly needs this price drop: the most recent sales analysis showed that PlayStation consoles outsold Xbox consoles by a staggering 3:1 in Q2 of 2014. Sony sold 3.5 million units while Microsoft sold just 1.1 million.
The evidence for the price drop is the below screenshot taken from the Spanish homepage of the Xbox One website. Microsoft are expected to announce the price drop on August 2014 at Gamescom so if it is just a mistake we’ll find out soon enough. However, for Microsoft’s sake you hope it isn’t a mistake: that price-drop is really needed to stay competitive.
